Both ships lie beside Snake Island outside of Nanaimo harbour.
The Saskatchewan was a 366' destroyer and was sunk June 14th, 1997 in 130 ft of water . The shallowest dive is the mast at aprox. 45 ft. with the bridge at 65', top of guns 85 ft., fore and aft decks 95'and the aft mortor bay at 105 ft.. The majority of the diving on the Saskatchewan is between 80 and 100 ft.. and is totally accessible to properly certified and equipped divers.
The HMCS Cape Breton was a 411 ft. escort maintenance ship and sunk October 20, 2001 in 145' ft.of water. The largest diver prepared artificial reef on the coast, its crows nest can be reached at 40 ft., top of funnel 50 ft., captains quarters 85 ft., for and aft decks at 100 ft. and the engine room reached at a depth of 140 ft..
Dive Rivtow Lion
Nanaimo's latest sunken vessel is the 147 ft. North Sea Tug, Rivtow Lion.
It was recently sunk near Departure Bay beside Newcastle Island, a short boat ride from the Viking 1's moorage in Nanaimo.
