Welcome Aboard !

Itinerary:

Day 1
Meet in Port McNeill at 10:00 am, where your captain and crew will welcome you aboard the Viking 1. After a safety briefing we depart Port McNeill and a short time later pass Alert Bay where we can view from the water the Native Cemetary and one of the best displays of Indian Totem Poles on this coast. From here on we have a good chance of encountering whales on our travels. Your skipper will be monitoring the VHF Radio and through a network of other whale watch vessels will be able to have a good idea where the whales are today. We always have some flexibility to be able to travel to where they might be (within reason of course) But the Blackfish Sound Area including Donnegal Head off Malcolm Island and Stubbs Island are a good start. The waters here tend to have a lot of tidal currents so after lunch aboard we will decide a suitable strategy to take advantage of the currents. While you paddle, I find a spot nearby to anchor up for the evening, enjoying a nice meal aboard served with red wine. Feel free to paddle around, go to shore or settle in for the evening. It's your holiday!

Day 2
A relaxing breakfast and we can cruise or paddle. A likely spot is the Sophie Islands across Johnston Strait from Robson Bight, a favorite area of the orcas. Later we may head into the Broughton Archipelago. Expect to see lots of wildlife. Eagles may be seen as are many species of waterfowl and shorebirds. In the water we tend to see seals and otters. Once more we anchor out for the nite. Let's hope the stars are shining for us.

Day 3
Our last day. We can go exploring, checking out some abandoned Indian Villages or just paddle into the many intricate passages found in this area. On the way back we may stop at Alert Bay where you are welcome to go ashore. One of the most visited spots here is the U'Mista Culural Centre where a large collection of Native Art and culture can be found. We arrive back in Port McNeill around 3:00 pm.
